DB2000 Full Installation Help

This document explains how to download and install the full install version of DB2000, how to configure DB2000, and how to acquire and import a roster file.

If DB2000 is already installed on your machine, you may choose to only download the updated file(s). Update instructions and the software are available on the DB2000 support site.

Note! If DB2000 is already installed on your machine and you elect to do a full install of a later version, you MUST first use the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs Facility to remove any existing version of DB2000 prior to installing a new version. Failing to do so will result in improper registry settings and strange behaviors.

Overview of Necessary Steps

  1. Download the full install file DB2000R3.EXE.
  2. Remove any existing version
  3. Install DB2000.
  4. Configure DB2000.

The FTP plugin next presents a dialog similar to the following:

    7. Use this dialog to position to the Downloads directory to save the file being downloaded.
    8. Click on the Save button to begin the download.
The FTP pluggin will show a progress screen similar to the following:

Normally, when the download is complete, the progress screen just closes and you are back at the table of available downloads.
Some FTP programs may show a completion message.
    9. Close the DB2000 Support Site window and you have completed Step 1.
You have successfully downloaded the full install version of DB2000
It has been saved as C:\Downloads\DB2000R3.EXE.

    4. Scroll through the list of programs on your system and if you see any DB2000 entries such as DB2000V3

      DB2000 has been installed.
It now resides in C:\Program Files\DB2000V3 (assuming you didn't change the destination directory).

  4. Configure DB2000

At this point we need to decide how we will want to start DB2000 in the future.
There are a number of ways including selecting DB2000 from the Start Programs list,
Using Windows Explorer to open the DB2000V3 directory and then double clicking on the name,
Creating a short cut on the desktop, etc.
I believe that a desktop shortcut is very convenient.
If you prefer to start DB2000 some other way, skip the instructions on creating a new short cut.
To create a new shortcut do the following:
      1. Right click on the desktop
      2. Select New and then Shortcut
The system will present a dialog with a Browse Button.
      3. Click on the Browse Button
The system will present a file location dialog
      4. Use this dialog to position to C:\Program Files\DB2000V3\DB2000V3.EXE
When you have selected the name DB2000V3.EXE click OK on the File Location Dialog Window
      5. Then Click Next on the Dialog with the Browse Button
      6. Give the Shortcut a meaningful name such as "DB2000" and then click on the Finish Button.

    1. Start DB2000 using your preferred method.
      The following window will appear

    2. Click on the Start Menu.
A dialog similar to the following will be presented:

    3. Click on the OK Button
DB2000 will present a District pull down selection box in the upper left hand corner of the window, similar to the following:

    4. Click on the down arrow to open the list of districts.
The open list will appear as follows:

    5. Scroll the list to choose your district.
National Merit Mark users should choose District 60 not the National MM entry.
District 60 is for people that will be using the National Merit Mark roster.
District 88 is for Ensign subscribers
District 90 is for Provisional Squadrons
District 99 is for unattached members
Click on the proper entry to close the list.
DB2000 will present a dialog similar to the following asking you to confirm your choice:

    6. If the district named in the confirmation dialog is correct click on YES, otherwise click on NO and go back to step 4.b.
    7. After clicking on YES, DB2000 will present another pull down selection box entitled "Squadron".
      This will appear as follows:

    8. Click on the down arrow to open the list of squadrons.
This will appear similar to the following:

    9. Select your squadron name from the list.
District roster users should select the District entry at the top of the list.
Click on the proper entry to close the list.
DB2000 will present a dialog similar to the following asking you to confirm your choice:

    10. If the name in the confirmation dialog is correct click on YES, otherwise click on NO and go back to step 4.h.
At this point you have completed step 4.
      DB2000 has been configured.
The menus will change and now appear as follows:

    11. Click on the Exit Button.

  5. Request a Roster

The current procedure for obtaining a roster requires that you go to a page on the national web site, at which time you will be required to supply 4 pieces of information to the following Roster Request Form:

      • Your squadron or district commander was given a password in a letter sent to him by the headquarters manager in the latter part of April.
That password is the one required to request a roster.
      • The Squadron/District Code required is the organization's four digit account number. Your Commander or Treasurer can provide this if you don't already know it.
      • The Email Address is where you want the roster sent.
      • The Certificate Number is your certificate number.

Once you have the necessary information in your possession:

    1. Go to the Roster Request Page on the National ITCOM Web Site
    2. Fill in the four text boxes and click on the submit button.
    3. Once you submit your request for a roster, you should receive your file attached to an e-mail by the end of the next business day.

  6. Extract and Save roster from received e-mail.
    1. When you receive your e-mail with the roster attached, save the file attachment in the Downloads directory.
Do not save the roster file in the DB2000V3 directory.
The roster file name will be named SDDxxx.EXE where "xxx" represents your squadron or districts' alpha code.
For instructions on how to save a file attachment, look in Help under "Attachments" in your e-mail program.
A common procedure is to right click on the attachment name or Icon and select Save As from the context menu.

  7. Importing a Roster File

    1. Start DB2000 in your preferred manner.
    2. Click on File, then Roster Options.
At this point the screen will look as follows:

      1. Click on Import HQ Roster File.

DB2000 will present the Import Roster Dialog

      2. Click on the Check All Button
      3. Click on the Start Button
DB2000 will next present a file location dialog similar to the following:

      4. Use this dialog to position to the SQDxxx.EXE file which you saved in the Downloads directory
      5. Select the file name and click on the Open Button
The file location dialog will disappear and you'll be back to the Import Roster Dialog.

The label of the progress bar in the lower left will initially read Decoding Roster
When the file has been unencrypted it will change to Importing Data
The progress bar will begin to move to the right.

The Cancel Button changes to a Finish Button.
      6. Click on the Finish Button
DB2000 will present its main splash page with all menu items enabled
If you did not configure DB2000 for Merit Marks Only, all the buttons will also be enabled.

      7. Click on the Exit Button
DB2000 will ask whether you want to save the changes made to the data base.

      8. Click on YES

If you need further help with running DB2000 or RepWiz see the Help Menus of DB2000 and RepWiz or contact the DB2000
Support Team via the contact email address on the DB2000 Support Site.

From time to time, fixes are made to the programs. You can download and update just the fixed component file(s) instead of the complete program. If you need help applying the updates, read the Update Installation Help Document.
